Chimneys Unless you've watched "Mary Poppins" recently, chimneys probably aren't the first home maintenance item you think of... until something goes wrong. Underappreciated though they may be, chimneys are a vital part of your home's daily functioning, serving as an exhaust system for things you'd rather not have inside your home. When neglected, however, they can become blocked up or serve as a point of entry for other things you'd rather keep outside, such as rodents, birds, etc. Installed or maintained improperly, the chimney area can be the source point of a leak. Over time, a brick chimney may need to be tuck pointed or rebuilt to keep it from falling down.
